Glenn Van Straatum
Director of Coaching
|
Glenn is in his eigth year as Director of Coaching EBU Bay Oaks, and his 12th year with the club having served as an Assistant Director of Coaching since 2003. In 2007, Glenn was the Head Coach of the California Victory, a professional USL Division I expansion franchise with its home games at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. He was also assistant coach at the University of San Francisco in 2001. Glenn is an experienced coaching director, coach, player and leader in Bay Area professional, semi-professional and youth soccer ranks. His playing career includes World Cup qualifying and CONCACAF Country/Club experience for his native country of Surinam and club team Transvaal (CONCACAF champion, ‘81). In college, he played on the University of San Francisco NCAA National Championship teams in 1978 and 1980 and left his best for his senior year in 1982 scoring 16 goals and 10 assists (42-points). Glenn’s leadership and commitment extends beyond the soccer field and transcends beyond the EBU Bay Oaks club into the entire Northern California soccer community. Glenn currently serves a 5 year term as a board-elected volunteer board member for the Norcal Premier Soccer league, where he has taken on some specific board duties such as a lead roles in starting the Norcal College Showcase program, helping with technology decisions on the Norcal BOD and many other strategic projects. Previously, Glenn has also served for 7 years as the volunteer Coaching Director for the JLYSSL league, where he negotiated an agreement with Peralta Community College District for access to two $6M Field Turf fields at College of Alameda and Merritt College, created a U6-U8 Soccer Academy program to transform coaching support and player development for the league starting with the development of the youngest players and providing a mentoring support system for all coaches in the league. Glenn holds an USSF A license.

Peter Hayton Techical Director |
Peter is in his eight year as Technical Director for EBU Bay Oaks, and his 12th year with the club having served as an Assistant Director of Coaching since 2003. In addition to his Technical Director duties, Peter is currently the head coach for EBU Bay Oaks U13/14 US Development Academy Team. He is a well known and respected figure in Bay Area youth soccer. His playing resume includes a professional career with Darlington F.C. in his home country of England. Peter also represented his State (County) at all levels, captained his college team for two years, and was selected to attend England U18 try-outs. Peter has been involved in youth training at the highest level since 1996. His coaching experiences include observation/education at EPL teams Middlesbrough FC, Manchester Utd., and also Dutch Eredivise team, Feyenoord. Peter is an NSCAA Associate staff coach and also worked with Norcal PDP as a staff coach (2012-2014). He was the Piedmont High School boys’ varsity head soccer coach for five years. Under his guidance, the program recorded three consecutive BSAL league titles (2006 - 2008) as well as three consecutive NCS Championship game appearances (2006 - 2008). Peter’s coaching credentials include: UEFA B Coaching License, NSCAA Premier Diploma, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, FA Coaching Certificate, Brazilian Futbol de Salao Coaching License. He is a certified Psycho-Motor Skills Trainer and also holds the ACF Fiorentina Master Coaching Diploma which he completed in Florence, Italy (December 2011.) |

Mark Grody Director of Goalkeeping and Assistant Director |
Mark is returning for his 11th year as director of goalkeeping for the Bay Oaks and third year as AD for the EBUSC U6-U8 Programs, including the Jrs. Academy. He played for San Francisco State and Cal State Northridge, was the girls and boys coach at Oakland High for 8 seasons, was the girls coach at Encinal High School for three seasons, and was the assistant coach in charge of GK at Holy Names College for both the men’s and women’s teams for two years. As well as his program, camp, and clinic work in the club, Mark has also coached Bay Oaks U15G, U10B, & U11B teams. Mark works on technical skills and tactical awareness with all Bay Oaks goalkeepers as well as in the fall with the EBUSC recreational goalkeepers. Mark has also been heavily involved in all the club's academy programs. Mark went back to school in 2010 and finished his BA in Political Science at CSU East Bay. He was a participant in NorCals ACF Fiorentina Psycho-Motor clinics, has USSF National D and GK licenses, and the NSCAA National, Level I, II, III GK, and Director of Coaching Diplomas. |

André Hébert Assistant Director |
André has nine years of Bay Oaks coaching experience, and this is his seventh as a head coach. Prior to the Bay Oaks, Andre coached for many years with the Rockridge Soccer Club, and this last year at Berkeley High School. Andre's experience also includes coaching teams when he was in the Navy. He grew up playing in Colorado and in New Mexico. He holds the ACF Fiorentina Psycho-Motor certificate, the NSCAA National Diploma, and the CYSA E/D coaching license. |

Jon Nishimoto Assistant Director |
Jon is entering his fourth year as Asst. Director and will be returning for his sixth year as a Head Coach. In his first three seasons with Bay Oaks he led the Speed Demons’94G to great success in league and tournament play. Jon has experience working with Youth, Club, High School, College and ODP players. Jon is currently coaching the Varsity Women at Bishop O’Dowd High School and Bay Oaks Botafogo ’96G. Jon currently holds the USSF National B License and NSCAA Premier Diploma. Under the direction of Glenn and Peter, Jon will continue to help train coaches and work with players. Under Glenn and Peter’s direction, Jon works with our coaches and players. |

Laura Van Wart Assistant Director |
Laura returns to the club and the Saint Mary Gaels after spending a year as assistant coach at Long Beach State. As an assistant coach with the Gaels, Van Wart worked primarily with the forwards and midfielders. Under her guidance, the school had its best offensive season since 2002, scoring in 19 out of 20 games. Prior to her time in Moraga, Van Wart was the head coach at Contra Costa College for three years. In her first season, Van Wart was named the 2006 Bay Valley Conference Coach of the Year. She has extensive experience in coaching youth soccer in Northern California for more than 12 years. Van Wart coached at both Las Lomas High School and El Cerrito High School, as well as for Bay Oaks, San Ramon, and Mavericks Soccer clubs. Van Wart graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in history and a minor in education. Van Wart is currently on the Cal North State ODP staff and holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. |
