Glenn Van Straatum
Club Technical Director and US Development Academy Director
Glenn served as Director of Coaching EBU Bay Oaks for 10 years and has been with the club for 14 years with the club having served as an Assistant Director of Coaching since 2003. In 2007, Glenn was the Head Coach of the California Victory, a professional USL Division I expansion franchise with its home games at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. He was also assistant coach at the University of San Francisco in 2001. Glenn is an experienced coaching director, coach, player and leader in Bay Area professional, semi-professional and youth soccer ranks. His playing career includes World Cup qualifying and CONCACAF Country/Club experience for his native country of Surinam and club team Transvaal (CONCACAF champion, ‘81). In college, he played on the University of San Francisco NCAA National Championship teams in 1978 and 1980 and left his best for his senior year in 1982 scoring 16 goals and 10 assists (42-points).

Glenn’s leadership and commitment extends beyond the soccer field and transcends beyond the EBU Bay Oaks club into the entire Northern California soccer community. Glenn currently serves a 5 year term as a board-elected volunteer board member for the Norcal Premier Soccer league, where he has taken on some specific board duties such as a lead roles in starting the Norcal College Showcase program, helping with technology decisions on the Norcal BOD and many other strategic projects. Previously, Glenn has also served for 7 years as the volunteer Coaching Director for the JLYSSL league, where he negotiated an agreement with Peralta Community College District for access to two $6M Field Turf fields at College of Alameda and Merritt College, created a U6-U8 Soccer Academy program to transform coaching support and player development for the league starting with the development of the youngest players and providing a mentoring support system for all coaches in the league. Glenn holds an USSF A license.

Peter Hayton
USSDA Technical Director
Peter joined Bay Oaks SC in 2003 and held the position of Assistant Coaching Director for 6 yrs.

From 2008 to 2017 he was club Technical Director and U12-U14 Boys Coaching Director. In 2014 EBU-Bay Oaks were awarded U13/14 US Soccer Development Academy Status and Peter was selected as head coach and Academy Technical Director. For season 2016/17 US Soccer Federation awarded EBU-Bay Oaks U12-U14 Development Academy status. Peter remains EBU-Bay Oaks D.A Technical Director and is currently U14Boys D.A. Head Coach.

He is a well-known and respected figure in Bay Area youth soccer. His playing resume includes a professional career with Darlington F.C. in his home country of England. Peter also represented his State (County) at all levels, captained his college team for two years, and was selected to attend England U18 try-outs. Peter has been involved in youth training at the highest level since 1996. His coaching experiences include observation/education at EPL teams Middlesbrough FC, Manchester Utd., and also Dutch Eredivise team, Feyenoord. Peter is an NSCAA Associate staff coach and also worked with Norcal PDP as a staff coach (2012-2014). He was the Piedmont High School boys’ varsity head soccer coach for five years. Under his guidance, the program recorded three consecutive BSAL league titles (2006 – 2008) as well as three consecutive NCS Championship game appearances (2006 – 2008). Peter’s coaching credentials include: UEFA B Coaching License, USSF B license, NSCAA Premier Diploma, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, FA Coaching Certificate, Brazilian Futbol de Salao Coaching License. He is a certified Psycho-Motor Skills Trainer and also holds the ACF Fiorentina Master Coaching Diploma which he completed in Florence, Italy (December 2011.)

Marco Plascencia
Boys Director of Coaching
Marco has 21 years of experience with Bay Oaks soccer club both as a player and a coach. His family has been part of Bay Oaks since the early 80’s. Marco played 11 years with the club starting at U10 as a 7 year old. As a Bay Oaks player, Marco made the Olympic Development Program (ODP) State and Regional team. Over the years, Marco has played with multiple teams in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the California Premier Soccer Association (CPSA) and the San Francisco Soccer Football League (SFSFL).Marco Joined EBU Bay Oaks Soccer club in 2009 as a head coach and Trainer. In 2014, Marco became the U9-U12 Boys Assistant Coaching Director and Director of Coaching in Training. In Spring 2017 Marco became the U9-U12 Boys Coaching Director and that Fall, Marco became the new Boys Director of Coaching. In addition to coaching with EBU Bay Oaks, Marco has coached at Encinal High School, Piedmont High School and in 2016 he became the Bishop O’Dowd Men’s Varsity Coach. In his first year as the Bishop O’Dowd Dragons head coach, he led the team to a 2nd place league finish and an NCS Semi-Final appearance. This year, he led the Dragons to a League Championship and an NCS Championship.

Marco is currently the Head Coach of the U12 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Team. Coaching credentials: NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma, USSF C License, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, and ACF Fiorentina Advanced Pyscho-Motor Certificate

Jon Nishimoto
Girls Director of Coaching
 Jon Nishimoto has been a member of the East Bay United Bay Oaks Soccer Club since 2003.  He started as a Head Coach in Bay Oaks and was promoted to Assistant Director in 2005.  Jon has also served as an EBU Camp Director and has led the EBU Junior Coaching Program. He has mentored and coached many of our current coaches in the Bay Oaks soccer club.Coach Nishimoto has been coaching soccer in Northern California since 1990.   He brings a wealth of experience coaching both boys and girls in the Olympic Development Program, College, High School and Club.  Jon’s coaching credentials include the USSF B Coaching License and the NSCAA Premier Diploma. Jon is also an NSCAA Staff instructor and has instructed non-residential courses for the U.S Soccer Federation.

Jon has led many teams in the Northern California region to great success across the United States.  The Bay Oaks teams that he has worked with directly have had great success in the prestigious U.S.Youth Soccer National Championship Series. Participating in 6 State Championship Finals- winning 5.  Qualifying for 6 Regional Championship events and also medaling at the USYSA National Championships in Kansas City, Kansas.  Jon’s Bay Oaks teams have also produced multiple players that have played professionally in multiple countries of the world and also represented their youth National Teams (USA, Mexico, Philippines, and Czech Republic).  Most importantly, Jon’s guidance has been instrumental in the careers of many of his former players being able to continue their soccer in colleges across America.

In addition to EBU Bay Oaks, Jon is the Head Coach for the Bishop O’Dowd High School Women’s Soccer Program.  Jon has been coaching at Bishop O’Dowd from 2005-present.  He started coaching the men’s varsity team and transitioned to coaching on the women’s side at BOD in 2010 to present.  Under his guidance the program has recorded 10 league Championships and 2 second place finishes.  Jon has also led Bishop O’Dowd teams to 7 NCS Championship Finals winning 4. Jon was awarded the California Coaches Association “California State Coach of the Year” in 2014/15 and 2015/16.

Jon has been a homeowner in the city of Oakland since 1995.  He owns and operates a business in Oakland that was established in 1999.  Jon has 3 daughters Raelyn(LVN), Alexandria(MBA) and Haley(attending CSUMB). Bay Oaks Alumni- Alexandria Nishimoto (93′) and Haley Nishimoto(96′).

Mark Grody
Director of Goalkeeping & Training Programs
Mark has been the director of goalkeeping for the Bay Oaks for more than 15 years and more than 8 years as age group director for the EBUSC U6-U8 Programs, including the Jrs. Academy & Grassroots programs as well as U6-U8 rec teams. Now also in charge of Summer Camps & oversees Friday & Winter seasonal training programs. He played for SFSU & CSUN, was the girl’s & boy’s coach at Oakland High for eight seasons, was the girl’s coach at Encinal High School for three seasons, & was the assistant coach in charge of GK at Holy Names College for both the men’s & women’s teams for two years. As well as his program, camp, & clinic work in the club, Mark has also coached Bay Oaks U15G, U10B, & U11B teams. Mark works on technical skills & tactical awareness with all Bay Oaks goalkeepers as well as in the fall with the EBUSC recreational goalkeepers. Mark has also been heavily involved in all the club’s academy programs. Mark went back to school in 2010 to finish his BA in Political Science at CSUEB. He was a participant in NorCals ACF Fiorentina Psycho-Motor clinics, has USSF National D & GK licenses, & the NSCAA National, Level I-II-III GK, & Director of Coaching Diplomas.
