Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there Financial Aid available to play on a Bay Oaks Team?
  • Can a player “play up,” or tryout for a team that is older than their birth year?
    • Players should register for and attend tryouts for their birth year. In special cases, coaches may identify a player during tryouts and invite them to tryout for an older age group. Players born in 2012 that want to start playing on a competitive team one year early may attend the 2011 tryouts without obtaining special permission. During the season, players will be invited to train and guest play with older teams when appropriate. Players are not allowed to play “down” on a competitive team with players younger than them.
  • What is the time commitment associated with playing on a Bay Oaks competitive team?
    • This depends on the age and level of the team. Most teams train 2-3 times during the week and play 1-2 games on most weekends during the fall and spring seasons.  Many players choose to participate in additional training clinics and camps throughout the year that are included in the registration fee for Bay Oaks Players.
  • How does a player tryout for the Boys US Soccer Development Academy (USSDA)?
    • EBU-Bay Oaks U.S. Soccer Development Academy program staff will attend the U12-U14 EBU-Bay Oaks Boys tryouts  to assess and evaluate all players readiness to participate in our DA program. Some players will be invited to tryout for our USSDA Academy teams.

  • What if a player has to miss one or more days of tryouts?
Tryout Attendance Policy

Players that want to tryout for an EBU Bay Oaks Competitive Boys or Girls team must attend the scheduled tryout for their age group.

Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each tryout session of registered players.

Players that are absent from the tryouts without being excused may be disqualified from playing on a Bay Oaks competitive for the 2019/20 season.

Players must participate in all scheduled tryout sessions for their age group unless an excused absence is approved by the Director of Coaching, Assistant Director of Coaching or the Head Coach of the team of interest.

Special Circumstance

Injury/Illness

Registered Players who cannot participate in the tryout due to an injury or illness will be excused from the appropriate tryout session with the submission of a doctors note describing the players limitations.

Registered Players that miss all of the scheduled tryout sessions due to illness or injury must provide a doctor’s note, and may be provided a special circumstantial evaluation, once the player provides a doctor’s release to participate.  Please keep in mind that EBU must adhere to all league rules and regulations regarding player placement and will defer to league policies on tryout eligibility.

*Family Emergencies/ Personal

Registered Players that cannot participate due to family emergencies or personal reasons must submit a request in advance if possible to the EBU Girls Director of Coaching or the Head Coach of the team of interest for an alternate tryout session.

Unusual circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by case basis but are not guaranteed to be excused.

The club does not intend to prohibit any player experiencing injury, illness or family situations from playing on a Bay Oaks competitive team. All reasonable accommodations will be made to determine a player’s skill level and placement on the appropriate team. These accommodations may include, but are not limited to:

  • Modified Tryout
  • Scheduled Individual Tryout
  • previous season’s internal tryout evaluation
  • previous season’s internal coach-player evaluation

All requests for an excused absence from tryouts must be submitted by email to the appropriate Coaching Director and/or the Head Coach of the team of interest.
